Welcome to our official website!
The Thalia Lions Club of Virginia Beach hopes this website will serve two purposes - an introduction to those exploring and investigating Lionism for the first time and a resource for current members. We will attempt to provide the general information in an easy-to-use format, but also protect current members with password-protected access to club specific data.
Lions are proud to serve the needs of their community and the world directly in projects and indirectly with contributions derived from fund-raising. We offer membership without discrimination and have only two requirements - be 21 years of age and be of good character. We carefully separate administrative from charitable finances so we can honestly state that 100% of the public's contributions and profits from fund-raising are used for charity. Few organizations can make that statement.
Lions have specialized in sight and hearing programs since 1927 when Helen Keller charged the Lions to be "The Knights of the Blind." We also support many other charities , from local rescue squads to youth activities. Blind-made products are sold for the double benefits of blind employment and our fund-raising.
Please explore our site. If you wish to contact our club for more information, please click here.

The Beginning of Lionism
The International Association of Lions started as a dream of a young Chicago insurance agent, Melvin Jones. He consolidated several independent clubs into a strong unit for service to humanity. Further growth led to a meeting in 1917 that called for similar associations to join in a convention in Dallas, Texas. There, 22 clubs from nine states convened for the first annual convention. In 1922, invited guest Helen Keller challenged the convention to become "Knights of the Blind, in the crusade against darkness." Since then, service to the blind and visually impaired has become Lions' most significant activity. "Sight First" is now Lions International's global program to prevent blindness.
"You can't get very far until you start doing something for somebody else." - Melvin Jones
